Neurosurgical Oncology Speciality

Dealing with cancer cells anywhere in the brain and spinal cord requires a neuro-oncologist for the best results

Brain Tumors

We have extensive experience treating various types of brain cancer. Some of the different types of brain tumors we have treated have included glioblastomas, meningiomas, and metastatic tumors in the brain.

It’s unfortunate, but brain tumors are most often the result of cancer spreading from other parts of the body. These tumors can be either benign or malignant. Once we determine the status of the tumor, we can determine the best course of treatment.

When it comes to brain tumor treatment, performing surgery is often curative if the tumor is benign. Malignant tumor cells require a more aggressive approach after surgery such as chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy to help reduce the chances of recurrence.

Clearly, any type of tumor or cancer in the brain tissue can be life-threatening, but we have helped many patients address these issues successfully.

Spine Tumors

A tumor along the spinal column is often referred to as an intradural tumor. It’s a small growth of cells that occurs within your spinal canal or within the bones of your spine. There are typically two different types:

  • Intramedullary tumors that exist within the spinal cord itself like gliomas, astrocytomas or ependymomas.
  • Extramedullary tumors grow in either the membrane around the spinal cord or in the nerves that reach out from the spinal cord such as meningiomas, neurofibromas, schwannomas, and nerve sheath tumors.

Treatment options for spine tumors include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and other medications.
